European Parliament backs EU-Canada Agreement

On the 15th of February, the Members of the European Parliament ratified with a large and cross-party majority the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), an agreement between the European Union and Canada.

This agreement is aimed at boosting trade and investment between the two major business partners. It lowers tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade and simplifies the mutual recognition of certification.

In 2015, trade between the EU and Canada (12th most important partner for the EU) reached 60 billion euros. This could be boosted by 20% thanks to CETA.
