EC reopened review of the steel safeguards

The European Commission exceptionally reopened its review of the steel safeguards measures after calls from the steel industry and some member states for a downward revision of the quota.

Completing the tight deadline of the 7th of May, CLEPA has prepared a contribution focusing on the risks that a reduction of quotas could bring considering the current critical situation in the EU. Among others:

  • Increase of sourcing costs
  • Rise of difficulties to restart and keep the supply chain running

The association strongly advocates for the need of flexibility of quarterly quota to be able to respond to demand fluctuations as we enter a highly volatile relaunch of the automotive supply chain.
