Circular Plastics Alliance: official declaration to boost cooperation and plastics recycling in Europe
On 5 February 2019, 30 stakeholders organisations gathered for the first meeting in the context of the EU industry days. The participants expressed their commitment working towards one specific objective: that by 2025, 10 million tonnes of recycled plastics are used to make products in the EU. For this purpose, they agreed to work on 5 topics:
- Collection and sorting of plastic waste
- Product design for recycling
- Recycled plastic content in products
- R&D and investments, including chemical recycling
- Monitoring of recycled plastics sold in the EU
Operational working groups were set up immediately to work on concrete solutions during spring 2019.
The group has prepared an official declaration that will be adopted during a high level event that will take place in Brussels on 20 September. The declaration raises the alliance’s vision for more recycled plastics in Europe, as well as their commitments for action to reach the EU target. All organisations, companies and public authorities willing to contribute to delivering the commitments of the alliance can co-sign the declaration.
