Car sales globally on the rise, says Germany’s VDA

New-car registrations in Germany jumped 13 percent in June, helped by two extra sales days and a growing economy.

The surge in June registrations mirrors strong gains in France, Italy and Spain, suggesting the region is maintaining its steady recovery despite worries about a Greek exit from the euro.

German car sales increased to 313,600 last month, extending the year-to-date advance to 5 percent or 1.62 million autos.

“The German auto market is steering the course,” said Matthias Wissmann, president of the VDA industry association.
