BATT4EU funding at risk amid budget cut from the European Commission

The Commission has announced a budget cut of €100 million for the BATT4EU Partnership, part of Horizon Europe, focused on the advancement of the EU’s battery supply chain.

The European battery ecosystem could be at risk, as the reduction in the budget allocation could directly impact the development of battery technologies.

CLEPA and 11 other signatories have put forward a letter to the European Commission asking to deliver on their vision of a competitive and innovative battery value chain in the EU. To achieve such an ambitious goal, funds must be guaranteed and the request from industry to keep the budget for BATT4EU intact must be granted.

Further funding in battery R&I under Horizon Europe will make the European battery industry competitive compared to other players overseas, deliver on the decarbonisation goals set by the Commission, and ensure a steady supply for future domestic demand.
