Virgin resource

Definition: natural resource or energy that is used as a resource for the first time as input in a process or for creating a product.

Notes on definition:

  • Note 1 to entry: Virgin resources can be either a renewable resource or non-renewable resource.
  • Note 2 to entry: Other terminology used, depending on the context, includes “virgin material” or “primary material”.
