Pre-consumer material

Definition: material diverted from the waste stream during a manufacturing process.

Notes on definition:

  • Note 1 to entry: Excluded is reutilization of materials such as rework, regrind or scrap generated in a process and capable of being reclaimed within the same process that generated it.
  • Note 2 to entry: also known as Pre-Consumer Waste and Post-Industrial Material.
