UN welcomes comments on the Decade of Action for Road Safety resolution

In August 2020, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 74/299 “Improving global road safety”, proclaiming the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, with the ambitious target of preventing at least 50% of road traffic fatalities and injuries by 2030.

In the same resolution, the UN General Assembly requested WHO and the UN Regional Commissions, in cooperation with other partners in the UN Road Safety Collaboration and other stakeholders, to prepare a plan of action of the Second Decade as a guiding document to support the implementation of the Decade’s objective.

The draft global plan of action is now available on their website in the 6 official UN languages and submission of comments from all entities within governments involved in road safety either directly or indirectly are desired. Each government entity is welcome to directly provide feedback i.e., consolidated submission per country is not a requirement. Comments from other entities (non-state actors) are also received.

Comments can be provided on the text of the draft and/or in a separate document in the form of general feedback to roadsafetyplan@who.int by 28 May 2021.
