Industry submits technical report on use of CO2 neutral fuels in road transport
Exclusive use of CO₂ neutral fuels in new cars, vans, trucks and buses: Industry is submitting its technical report to the European Commission.
The Working Group on Monitoring Methodologies (WGMM) has delivered its report, “Monitoring the Use of CO₂ Neutral Fuels in Road Transport – A Cross-Sectoral Industry Assessment,” to the European Commission. The report evaluates 11 potential technological solutions for exclusively using CO₂-neutral fuels (CNFs) in new road vehicles and suggests innovative methods for tracking and verifying these fuels sustainably.
During the revision of CO₂ emission standards, EU legislators effectively banned internal combustion engines for new cars and vans from 2035 by setting a 100% CO₂ reduction target at the tailpipe. For trucks and buses, a 90% CO₂ reduction target by 2040 allows for additional measures, such as using hydrogen and CNFs.
