European Commission launches public consultation on R&I and Competitiveness Strategy

European Commission Building

On March 4, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the development of an Integrated Research, Innovation and Competitiveness Strategy for the Energy Union, which is expected to conclude by the end of 2016.

The Commission will collect the opinions of stakeholders and interested parties, including EU citizens and private and public organisations on the EU’s transition to sustainable, competitive, energy-efficient and low-carbon economy. Transport, as one of the largest consumers of energy, will be a vital element of the strategy.

The planned strategy is an important EU follow-up of the COP21 Paris Agreement, achieved on 12 December 2015 under the United Nations Framework Climate Change Convention, which gives a clear and ambitious direction for low carbon innovation.
