European Commission launches new EU Urban Road Safety Award
The EU Urban Road Safety Award rewards local authorities for implementing measures, in the spirit of the internationally recognised ‘Safe System’ concept, to improve road safety. The award ties into this year’s EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK theme, reminding us that it is not enough to promote walking and cycling alone – authorities also have to make it safe.
What is the EU Urban Road Safety Award?
The EU Urban Road Safety Award highlights the contribution made by local authorities towards improving the safety of European roads.
The award, which is open for submissions from 16 September-16 December, rewards outstanding and innovative achievements by local authorities in the area of road safety and encourages the exchange of good practice across Europe.
Recognising the crucial role that towns and cities across Europe play in improving road safety, especially in light of the fact that 38 percent of road fatalities and more than 50 percent of serious road injuries occur on urban roads, the award rewards local authorities for adopting holistic measures to improve road safety, within the spirit of the internationally recognised ‘Safe System’ concept.
The call for applications is open until 16 December 2019 – 24:00 (CET). Read the call for applications here.
