EC: launch of the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Batteries
The new European Technology and Innovation Platform on Batteries has been launched today at an event in Brussels. Bringing together private and public actors and industrial and research stakeholders throughout the whole value chain of the sector, its aim is to be the driving force behind Europe’s ambitions in the field of batteries. By enhancing support for research and innovation on all types of battery technologies, the new platform will consolidate the industrial basis for this sector in Europe, creating new growth opportunities and new jobs.
The Director General of the Commission’s Energy department, Dominique Ristori, said:Organised within the Clean Energy Industrial Forum of the 2019 Industry Days, the launch event took stock of progress on all aspects of EU policy on batteries. The discussion was co-organised by the EU Battery Alliance, InnoEnergy, and Transport & Environment. Petri Peltonen, Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland, was the guest speaker, and representatives of key companies in the sector -Umicore, NorthVolt and Renault- also participated.
