Trilogue on Euro 7 concluded: New pollutant standards make only marginal steps forward

Brussels, 18 December 2023 – The European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament have reached an agreement in Trilogue on Euro 7 air pollutant emission standards today. Further to challenging technical and political debates, a compromise was reached bringing slightly more ambition, compared to the Council’s position, particularly on limit values. 

Benjamin Krieger, Secretary General of CLEPA, the European association of automotive suppliers, says: “The Commission’s proposal could have been implemented with some important safeguards. Today’s agreement removes most of the Commission’s proposal. It is positive to see progress on brake particle limits which allow for further evaluation of hybrid and fuel cell vehicle performance and some improvement on NOx and particle size. However, more ambition would have been technically and economically feasible.” 

The agreement has yet to be formally approved by the Parliament and the Council, further changes are not expected. About CLEPA
