DRIVES Project: Regions and industry discuss how to boost educational needs while safeguarding industrial communities

Which innovation trends can support the transition to low-carbon economies? How do we navigate the energy transition? Introduce intelligent transport systems? And introduce automated and connected vehicles?

Due to discretionary power over policy strategies and funding often being clustered at the regional level, the scale of this transition must be regional as well. Regions are in a prime position to promote excellence and a skilled workforce in the automotive sector. Two ERASMUS+ blueprint projects – DRIVES and ALBATTS – play a crucial role to involve regional entities to guide the automotive industry to full skills readiness.

 In the context of the European Week of Regions and Cities, the DRIVES and ALBATTS projects organised a workshop to present the results of their work on 13 October. The online meeting included a discussion between regional representatives and the EU projects teams on the future educational needs in the automotive and battery industries, safeguarding the future of local communities which depend on these industrial activities.

 During the workshop, speakers from the region of Stuttgart in Germany and the municipality of Skellefteå in Sweden also presented their insights on ongoing initiatives carried out by regional stakeholders. More information on the agenda is available here.
