COP21: more funding for RDI

In the framework of the COP21 taking place in Paris, two new initiatives were launched to promote research, development and innovation in the field of energy.

A group of 20 countries will launch the “Mission Innovation” initiative. Its aim is to double current spending for research and innovation in the field of energy. These 20 countries include, among others, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia.

In the meantime, another initiative named “Breakthrough Energy Coalition” will be launched by 28 private investors. The aim of this private project is to finance “early stage companies that have the potential of an energy future that produces near zero carbon emissions”.

The COP21 will last until the 11 December 2015 and should be the place for further announcements in that sense.
