Commission clears the creation of an electric car sharing joint venture

The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of joint control of a newly-created joint venture by the Austrian REWE International AG (belonging to the German REWE Group) and the Austrian Salzburg AG für Energie, Verkehr und Telekommunikation (SAG).

The joint venture will operate an electric car sharing business primarily in Salzburg. REWE is mainly active in food retail, with different supermarkets (e.g. Billa, Merkur), in food wholesale (AGM) and in operating drugstores (BIPA).

SAG is an integrated supplier of different services, such as electricity, natural gas, district heating, water, transport, and telecommunication in Salzburg.

The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
