CLEPA welcomes new UN Regulation on Driver Control Assistance Systems, enhancing vehicle safety and automation

CLEPA, the European Association of Automotive Suppliers, proudly contributed to the development of the new United Nations Regulation No. 171 on Driver Control Assistance Systems (DCAS), which entered into force on 30 September 2024. This regulation defines DCAS as systems that assist drivers in controlling the longitudinal and lateral movement of the vehicle while keeping the driver fully responsible for monitoring the surroundings and system performance, in line with SAE Level 2 automation.

Automotive suppliers, represented by CLEPA, played a crucial role in shaping the regulation. Their expertise ensured that the regulation emphasizes effective driver engagement and clear communication about system limitations to avoid overreliance on automation.
