CLEPA joins call for early technology-neutral review of CO2 standards
CLEPA, and 20 other trade associations, have co-signed a joint statement calling for an early technology-neutral review of EU CO2 emission standards regulations and incentives to stimulate uptake of clean vehicles by fleet owners.
The decarbonisation of road transport demands swift political action, addressing both short- and long-term policy adjustments. However, the current European legislative framework is hindering investment opportunities across the automotive industry, manufacturers, and energy suppliers. The forthcoming EU industrial action plan for the automotive sector should create a fair and competitive market for all technologies that contribute to transport decarbonisation, ensuring that support measures are balanced and proportionate to drive market adoption effectively.
Key takeways:
- The an anticipated revision of the CO2 standards regulations for vehicles must be done in a way that recognises the necessity of a technology open approach,
- Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and range extenders should also be recognised as additional complements to electrification,
- We believe the reviews of the CO2 performance standards should be brought forward by one year
