Building an ambitious EU industrial strategy

The European parliament in Strasbourg has adopted a text on; Building an ambitious EU industrial strategy as a strategic priority for growth, employment and innovation in Europe.  At the beginning of its present mandate, the Commission underlined the need to maintain and reinforce a strong and high-performing industrial base for the EU internal market and to bring the share of industry in the EU’s GDP – currently 16 % – back to 20 % by 2020. On this basis, the Commission has committed to addressing the concerns of industry and to systematically mainstreaming industrial competitiveness across all its major policy initiatives. The need for a clear EU strategy supporting the modernisation and transformation of industry has therefore been highlighted at different policy and institutional levels.
