CLEPA working group discusses EU-UK Free Trade Agreement with DG Trade

On the 5th of May, CLEPA and members of its Trade Working Group met with representatives of the European Commission to present the perspective of the automotive supply industry on the future Free Trade Agreement between the EU and the UK.

The discussion included exchanges on customs and trade facilitation measures, rules of origin and implementation timelines. Concerns remain that a future FTA may not sufficiently address the high level of integration of the EU-UK automotive supply chain. At the moment, automotive suppliers are advised to continue to prepare for all scenarios, including a very limited deal or no deal one.

CLEPA advocates for regulatory continuity between EU and UK, trade and customs conditions tailored to the high level of integration of the global automotive supply chain, and feasible implementation timelines to avoid disruption, while respecting the integrity of the single market.

The association will continue stressing the important role automotive suppliers play in European exports and the need to maintain scale to remain competitive in the global market.
